Flood Event Mapping in Australia

A tropical low has caused heavy rain and flooding throughout Queensland in mid-January 2008. This kind of disaster is time-critical and requires rapid-response capability for early action. The flood peak was expected to be on the 30th of January over the Fitzroy River.

The TerraSAR-X ScanSAR image tasked on Tuesday 29th January, was acquired at 6pm local time on Wednesday 30th of January and received by Apogee Thursday evening. The image was processed by Apogee the following day Friday 1st February to assess the extent of the flooded area along the Fitzroy River and Rockhampton.
